Mitsubishi Buses
Addressing Special Needs
Over the years Mitsubishi has
garnered a well-found reputation for the development of buses that
meet diverse passenger transport needs. These buses have been developed
for special application, some because of special economic or more
lately for environmental situations, while others have been developed
to meet special transport requirements.
1947 Began production of the
MB46 large-size electric bus
1955 TB12 trolley bus series
begins
1962 R480 amphibian bus capable
of operating on both railway tracks and normal road surfaces.
1963 MB720 small-sized bus
produced
1973 ME460 large sized electric
bus produced for use in Kobe and Kyoto, Japan.
1983 MBECS (Motor vehicle Brake Energy
Conservation System) bus research begins. (1994 MBECS-I anounced;
1995 MBECS-II anounced; 1996 MBECS-III capable of clearing 1999
emission regulations anounced).
Due to the fuel shortages of the 40's, Mitsubishi
released the MB46 large-sized electric powered bus in 1947. In its
3-year production period, 107 units of the 35 passenger bus were
manufactured. The 6,400 kilogram vehicle had a top speed of 40km/h
and could travel 60km between recharges.
Also released in 1963 was the MB720 small-size
bus adopting a monocoque body and a front engine format. It utilized
the same chassis and engine as the Canter T720 which was released
just the year before.
