Mitsubishi Chariot
New
Concept Family Car
The
innovative approach to vehicle designing at Mitsubishi Motors and
the dedication in providing vehicles to meet new consumer needs
led to the development of the Chariot in 1983. This new concept
vehicle was created to address an emerging trend for a more recreational
oriented vehicle which provided go-any-where performance. An all
around performer, the Chariot boasted an unheard of interior space
and panoramic visibility. The fuel efficient Chariot, marketed as
the Mitsubishi Space Wagon in export markets, is a mid-sized, multi-use
vehicle with seating for up to seven passengers. It adopts an FF
format, a high-roof-line design and flexible seating configurations
for a multitude of family enjoyment. In 1984, a part-time 4WD was
added to the lineup to enhance versitility in its lineup. Later
that same year, the 4WD Chariot again proved its winning heritage
by winning class honors in the prestigious Pharaoh's Rally in Egypt.
When
Mitsubishi Motors was named as the official car supplier to the
XIV Winter Olympic Games held in Sarajevo in 1984, the Chariot was
there as part of Mitsubishi's complement of official vehicles.
In
1991, the Chariot underwent its first major model
change and featured an even roomier interior and a markedly upgraded
comfort and performance. This Chariot adopted a taller roof-line
to further enhance the interior's airy environment as well as increasing
interior versatility by adopting a wider degree of seating configurations
to address more active family needs. Seats were also increased in
size for greater comfort. Part-time 4WD coupled with ABS sure stopping
power and four wheel independent suspension assureddd excellent
handling and driveability while providing a smooth stable ride.

The
third generation of the popular Chariot series was released in 1997.
Known by the nickname "Big Daddy," the all-new Chariot Grandis (Space
Wagon) does indeed have a powerful, commanding
presence, but its interior is warm and welcoming to all the family.
The Chariot has always been valued for its ample occupant space,
and in the latest model that space is even easier to use. The walk-through
access and the flat floor design facilitate effortless movement
throughout. The seating can be reconfigured to allow various combinations
of people and luggage. After all, every family has different needs.
The exterior of the Chariot Grandis projects a strong, reassuring
image. The union between engine hood and cabin is achieved smoothly
through elegant body lines that exude crisp efficiency.
Those smooth body lines are not merely for
show, as the aerodynamic form is a key factor in the Chariot's superb
fuel efficiency, underpinned by its powerful 2.4 liter GDI
engine (Gasoline Direct Intection), providing gasoline consumption
comparable to that of a conventional 2-liter engine.
