Exclusively designed and developed in 1995 for the European market, the Mitsubishi Carisma is distinctive in concept and styling. Distinctive in that 85% of the components are supplied locally and is produced by NedCar through a joint venture with Mitsubishi, Volvo and the government of the Netherlands. Designed and developed only after conducting a comprehensive survey of family car drivers throughout Europe, the Carisma offers standard and optional packages to meet the various regional marketing needs of Europe. Sporty in design and handling yet the class leading spacious interior is very family oriented.

The Carisma is powered by Mitsubishi's revolutionaly Gasoline Direct Injection (GDI) engine which operates in two combustion modes; Ultra Lean and Superior Ouput to provide the optimum combination of fuel efficiency and smooth performance. Added to this an innovative breakthrough in automatic transmission technology, the INVECS-ll (Intelligent and Innovative Vehicle Electronic Control System). Incorporating the latest in advanced computer technology, the INVECS-ll's Adaptive Shift Control monitors the shifting habits and preferences of the individual driver. Integrated with these innovative breakthroughs are a host of safety features including dual SRS (Supplementary Restraint System) airbags, ABS (Anti-lock Braking System), TCL (Traction Control) which markedly improves traction and regulates cornering speeds ---- the list goes on.
