Tredia & Cordia

The Combination to Meet the Needs

In 1982, the Tredia and Cordia were introduced to the market. These two new models were new in size and were designed to fit right in between the Galant and the Lancer models to increase the overal lineup of passenger vehicles. Developed for a smooth running performance of higher priced family cars, the Tredia and Cordia incorporated the latest technology to ensure dramatically low running cost advantages.

Adopting an FF format, the four door sedan Tredia was truly a family oriented vehicle with a roomy interior, incorporating ergonomically designed seats which could seat up to five in total comfort. The sportier of the two, the Cordia two door coupe with FWD format provided sure handling and great performance. Both models integrated new innovative features, such as a simple, easy-to-read digital meter cluster, Japan's first turbocharged 1600cc engine and the world's first ELC electric control automatic transmission. Upon release, these fuel efficient models boasted the lowest fuel consumption in its class at 13km/l when tested in Japan's ten mode driving test. In 1984, 4WD models were added to the lineup. Both models were discontinued in 1990.
