The 2000 Dion, Mitsubishi's all-new SUW (Sports Utility Wagon), was introduced to meet the growing demand for an all-around family utility wagon designed to transport passengers in great comfort and allow unrestricted movement throughout the cabin when the vehicle is at rest.

The interior of the new Dion features an H-walk layout for simplified interior mobility, the middle row features individual seats that are mounted on long-travel slides, and there is a walk-in mechanism that facilitates easy access to the rear row seats. The rear seats are unique in that they can be folded down and stowed under the floor to create a flat floor for a roomier luggage space. This row of seats can also be flipped at the touch of a button, allowing the occupants to face toward the rear. These features allow for various seating arrangements to meet the everyday needs and luggage requirements of passengers. Dion's "Low-tumble and Square" styling coupled with flat floor design offers interior space that is top in its class. Its stylish compact body dimensions enhances inner-city driveability and maneuverability, and its minimum turning radius is unbeaten in its class.

The new Dion SUW is powered by a new 2-liter GDI engine, already well known for its advanced technology and eco-friendly qualities. This high performance engine is coupled with Mitsubishi's own INVECS-II 4-speed automatic transmission for a smooth, jerk-free transfer of power to the driveline and wheels.

In the area of safety, the new Dion utilizes Mitsubishi's RISE (Realized Impact Safety Evolution) body, and all models come with SRS airbags for both driver and front passenger, anti-lock braking with electronic brake force distribution system and brake assist system, and 3-point rear seatbelts that can accommodate a child safety seat.
