Pajero iO

A Family Resemblance More than Skin Deep

The Pajero iO launched in 1998, represented a brand-new addition to the highly acclaimed Pajero series. Mitsubishi Motors continues to set the pace in the fast diversifying SUV market. The Pajero iO is unrivalled in its class in styling, comfort and driveability. Highly functional, affordable and immediately recognizable as a member of the Pajero family, the Pajero iO appeals particularly to younger drivers. The Pajero iO provides drivers with go-anywhere off-road capabilities, and the comfortable and civilized on-road performance of its big brother the Pajero.

Mitsubishi Motors continues to set the pace in the fast-diversifying SUV market. The 3-door or 5-door Pajero iO is more compact than its elder brother the Pajero. While its low, wide silhouette projects an image of reassuring stability, Mitsubishi has injected a dash of panache in the detail. High ground clearance, short front and rear overhangs, a squeezed minimum turning radius, and many water-resistance features endow the Pajero iO with go-anywhere off-road capabilities to complement the total great looks.

A stylish, ergonomically-designed interior makes a major contribution to the Pajero iO's comfortable ride, whether on road or off. A cockpit tailored to ease of use, separate front and rear split seats, an under-floor compartment with dividers for valuables and other small items, and reclining-adjustable seats are just some details that combine to deliver passenger-car like comfort

The Pajero iO handles superbly, has excellent traction and rides like a good natured stallion, courtesy of its McPherson strut front suspension and the five-link coil spring suspension at the rear. The environment-friendly GDI engine provides more than adequate power while simultaneously reducing harmful exhaust emissions. Standard on all models is the SS4-i system. This system, is noted for its low gear noise, reduced vibration and enhanced shift "feel."

The Pajero iO has a full complement of safety systems. Active safety systems, which help the driver to avoid accidents, include ABS for excellent braking control on all types of surfaces. When it comes to passive safety systems, which minimize injuries should an accident occur, the Pajero iO is a full beneficiary of Mitsubishi's in depth research and testing in this field. The rigid body construction is strategically reinforced to minimize cabin distortion in a collision. In addition, the Pajero iO features 3-point Emergency Locking Retractor (ELR) seatbelts for front seat passengers, and SRS front and side airbags, which, together with the ELR seatbelts, offer front occupants maximum possible protection in a head-on collision.

Specification loads vary from region to region with it being marketed in General and GCC markets as either the Pajero iO or the Montero iO and in Europe as the Pajero Pinin.
