The GDI offers the performance of a traditional gasoline engine with the fuel economy of a diesel. The Space Star is the second model built in Europe to come with the GDI option, following the Mitsubishi Carisma.

Built by Netherlands Car B.V. (NedCar), a joint venture with Volvo Car Corporation, is Mitsubishi Motors' European manufacturing arm. The company also produces the highly successful Carisma, the first Mitsubishi model developed specifically for the European market.
