Space Star

A Star is Born in Europe

The new Mitsubishi Space Star represents a revolutionary step forward in the family car segment. The dilemma of choosing between the spaciousness of an MPV or the compactness of a hatchback or saloon is now a thing of the past. The Space Star combines generous interior space with superb maneuverability. It is ideal for young families weaving through narrow streets with the kids and attendant paraphernalia on board.

Built in Europe, the Space Star is just right for the European market, where a premium is placed on style and environment-friendly characteristics. The Space Star's stylish exterior and elegant interior trim are the epitome of elegance, while its Mitsubishi GDI engine is already renowned for low emissions, superb fuel economy and lively performance. Users Europe-wide find that the Space Star speaks their language.

The Mitsubishi Space Star combines the exterior dimensions of a hatchback with the usable interior space of an MPV. There is now no need to make a trade-off between driving convenience and passenger comfort -- the Space Star offers the best of both worlds.

The Space Star's exterior dimensions are surprisingly modest, with all the implications that has for maneuverability and ease of parking. With a short turning radius, it makes three-point turns almost redundant. The Space Star's exterior appearance is also something special. Its sporty styling, featuring crisp lines and short overhangs, is a welcome reminder that design is an art as well as a science.

The Space Star has a host of features that make travel a pleasure rather than a chore. The driver's seat is 5-way adjustable. The controls are easy to reach, the gauges easy to read. The semi-tall body makes it easier to get into and out of the vehicle, an important consideration for families with toddlers or elderly people. Interior appointments add comfort and convenience.

Space Star users can choose from two engines, the 1.8-liter, 16 valve, DOHC, GDI or the 1.3-liter, 16-valve, SOHC, ECI-Multi. Mitsubishi's revolutionary GDI engine range has won extraordinary plaudits from the world's motoring press and other independent commentators since its launch in August 1996. The GDI offers the performance of a traditional gasoline engine with the fuel economy of a diesel. The Space Star is the second model built in Europe to come with the GDI option, following the Mitsubishi Carisma.

Advanced safety features include rigid cabin structure, front and side SRS airbag system, ABS, and anti-trapping mechanisms for the power windows and sunroof. The elevated seating position gives greater visibility, improving safety as well as comfort.

Built by Netherlands Car B.V. (NedCar), a joint venture with Volvo Car Corporation, is Mitsubishi Motors' European manufacturing arm. The company also produces the highly successful Carisma, the first Mitsubishi model developed specifically for the European market.
