Next-Gen Mitsubishi Triton announced as a 2025 Car of the Year finalist

  • The recently launched Mitsubishi Triton has been announced as a 2025 Car of the Year finalist
  • The Next-Gen Mitsubishi Triton features a number of characteristics that make it a worthy finalist.
  • The Mitsubishi Triton will compete for honours in the bakkie category of the competitions as well as the overall COTY title.

JOHANNESBURG – The South African Guild of Mobility Journalists (SAGMJ) has announced its list of finalists for the 2025 Car of the Year (COTY) competition, sponsored by Old Mutual Insure and the recently launched Mitsubishi Triton has been included on that list.

During 2024 a total of 70 brand new models were launched in South Africa comprising of 243 derivatives. Out of these introductions 20 models have been included in the list of finalists. These models will compete for overall honours in their respective categories as well as the 2025 Car of the Year title.

Although the past format of COTY awarded a single model, in recent years, the formation of categories in addition to an overall winner, has seen the competition achieve greater relevance in the eyes of the public.

The Next-Gen Mitsubishi Triton will compete in the 4×4 and bakkie categories as well as for the overall 2025 Car of the Year title.

Following the announcement of the COTY 2025 finalists, a rigorous, two-day testing process will be undertaken by the Jury, in order to score the contenders and determine category winners and the overall 2025 SA Car of the Year title.

“The South African bakkie market is unique and highly competitive due to the fact that for South Africans bakkies fill multiple roles, from a workhorse to a daily driver or a family leisure vehicle. The Next-Gen Mitsubishi Triton is able to perfectly fulfil all these roles, and I believe that is something that will count in its favour when the judging commences,” says Jeffrey Allison, General Manager: Marketing at Mitsubishi Motors South Africa (MMSA).

The Next-Gen Mitsubishi Triton features a number of characteristics that make it a worthy finalist. This includes a combination of unique styling, a roomy interior and excellent off-road ability. The Triton also represents excellent value for money, thanks to its competitive pricing and high-level of standard specification. In addition Mitsubishi’s Diamond Advantage Warranty which comprises a five-year/unlimited mileage warranty as well as a five-year/90 000km service plan adds to overall peace of mind and value for money.

The Next-Gen Mitsubishi Triton is no stranger to the winner’s circle. Since making its global debut a year ago the sixth generation Mitsubishi Triton has received a variety of prestigious awards including the special award at the RJC Car of the Year for 2025 run by the Automotive Researchers’ and Journalists’ Conference of Japan (RJC), an iF Design Award 2024 in the product design discipline and the 2023 Good Design Award presented by the Japan Institute of Design Promotion amongst a host of others.

Shortly after its launch in South Africa late last year the Mitsubishi Triton scooped its first local accolade when it was awarded the Bakkie of the Year award at the TopGear South Africa Awards.

“The SAGMJ COTY is one of the most prestigious automotive awards in the country as new vehicles are voted for and then stringently judged by journalists representing a wide variety of automotive publications. Being nominated as a finalist is a great accolade and we are confident that the Next-Gen Triton will suitably impress judges during the upcoming testing days,” concludes Allison.

JOHANNESBURG – Mitsubishi Motors South Africa (MMSA) is proud to announce the arrival of the Next-Gen Triton, an evolution in the iconic bakkie’s 46-year legacy. Building on a history of toughness, reliability and adventure, the new Triton is designed to challenge expectations in the South African market by offering a bakkie that is tough, stylish and versatile enough to meet the demands of both urban and adventure-loving South Africans.

The Next-Gen Triton is an extremely important model as it is the first global strategic vehicle to be rolled out at the start of the brands growth phase.

With a diverse model range, exclusive locally tailored editions, and the strongest warranty in its class, the Next-Gen Triton is ready to take on any challenge with confidence. Challenge Accepted.

A legacy of toughness

Mitsubishi’s Triton has long been a favourite among South African drivers, a reputation built on the brand’s heritage and the success of the iconic Colt. Since then, the Triton has continued to grow and evolve, offering a balance of rugged performance, cutting-edge design, and modern technology. The Next-Gen Triton marks a new chapter in this legacy, with advancements in comfort, performance, safety, and versatility.

“The South African bakkie market is an extremely competitive environment but we believe that the Next-Gen Triton not only accepts this challenge but also raises the bar with a range of models that allow drivers to define their own adventure. The Next-Gen Triton range offers tailored special editions and the strongest warranty in class as it invites South Africans to embrace the journey ahead,” says Jeffrey Allison, General Manager: Marketing at Mitsubishi Motors South Africa (MMSA).

Evolved to meet the needs of modern day bakkie owners

Now in its sixth generation, the Next-Gen Triton has been completely redesigned from the ground up. All elements including the interior and exterior design as well as the chassis, ladder frame and engine have been completely reimagined.

With a reputation for toughness to live up to it has evolved to meet the needs of the modern day bakkie owner.

Award winner

Since making its global debut a year ago the Next-Gen Mitsubishi Triton has received a variety of prestigious awards including a special award at the RJC Car of the Year for 2025 run by the Automotive Researchers’ and Journalists’ Conference of Japan (RJC), an iF Design Award 2024 in the product design discipline and the 2023 Good Design Award presented by the Japan Institute of Design Promotion amongst a host of others.

Rugged design

Based on the Beast Mode design concept, the Next-Gen Triton combines the Mitsubishi Motors design with the toughness and strength expected of a bakkie, while at the same time demonstrating an imposing stance with ruggedness and agility.

The frontal design incorporates the Dynamic Shield which is now accentuated by a robust, three-dimensional front grille, fenders and a bumper that emphasise this form. The daytime running lights feature three L-shaped LED lights which resemble the sharp gaze of a hawk, which in combination with the three-dimensional three-light headlights below them, gives the Next-Gen Triton a commanding presence.

The horizontally themed body sides are composed of large, solid surfaces which emphasise the robust doors, while contrasting with the sharply overhanging fender panels, in that way emphasising stability and toughness. The cabin shape and rear spoiler have been designed with optimum aerodynamic efficiency in mind.

At the rear T-shaped taillights on both sides emphasise width while also enforcingthe sturdy design.

Spacious, high-quality interior

The interior is designed for comfort, with advanced technology and a thoughtfully crafted space that enhances the ability to enjoy the ride, no matter where the journey takes you.

A spacious, refined cabin with high-quality materials and advanced noise-reduction technology creates a comfortable driving experience, whether you’re navigating city streets or open trails.

The interior features a robust, horizontally themed instrument panel that allows drivers to easily see changes in the position of the vehicle while driving. A variety of geometric shapes and metallic elements are in place to create a high-contrast, modern space.

An eight-inch infotainment system is positioned at eye level for ease of use and features smartphone connectivity via Apple CarPlay or Android Auto and an easy-to-read display. Ahead of the driver is a seven-inch multi-information display that offers all the necessary information at a glance and allows drivers to easily understand the vehicle’s status.

Designers paid particular attention to the appearance of the display and gauges which make use of contrast and switches that feature the optimum level of sensitivity. The steering wheel, grips and door handles have all been designed based on an approach called Mitsubishi Touch, with a focus on grip comfort and sturdiness.

The centre console features cup holders that can accommodate two large cups while the console box can hold four 600ml plastic bottles.

The Next-Gen Triton is approximately 50mm wider than the previous Triton, which translates into excellent shoulder room. Front seat adjustment range in all models is also segment leading. Rear seats in double cab models offer class leading shoulder and knee room by a significant margin, thanks in part to front seat backs that were designed with this in mind.

The front seats have been designed to provide firm lower back support while the shoulder areas provide ease of movement with an open shape, which helps to reduce driver fatigue. The hip point has also been moved up by 20mm with a more upright posture adopted to improve visibility. Ingress and egress have been improved thanks to a more vertical A-pillar which also widens the door openings.

First class safety

The Next-Gen Triton has also evolved in terms of its safety equipment. Central to this is the Super Select II system with Active Yaw Control, developed with expertise from Mitsubishi’s Rally history and first seen in the Lancer Evolution 10, it ensures excellent traction and superior stability and handling on all surface types.

Active Yaw Control improves cornering performance by applying light braking to the inside front wheel when cornering. This works by applying the brake to a spinning wheel and distributing the driving torque to wheels gripping the road surface, improving safety on slippery surfaces while also providing a sporty driving experience.

The Next-Gen Triton is fitted with a wide variety of meaningful safety features tailored for the South African market and conditions. Active Stability & Traction Control (ASTC) which improves stability on winding roads is standard on all models. Hill Descent Control (HDC) maintains a set speed on downhill slopes to enable driving with confidence without the need for the driver to apply the brakes and Hill Start Assist (HSA), prevents roll-back during hill starts.

All Mitsubishi Triton models are built with the inherent safety that the Reinforced Impact Safety Evolution Body Construction (RISE) offers while also incorporating side-impact protection bars.

Passive safety includes driver and passenger airbags on single cab models. Double cab GL models are equipped with driver, driver knee and passenger airbags while all other derivatives add front, side and curtain front and rear airbags in addition.

All-new turbodiesel engine

A newly developed 4N16 DI-DC engine utilises a variable geometry turbocharger to achieve improved output and improved environmental performance as well as powerful acceleration and responsiveness thanks impressive power and torque figures of 135kW at 3 500rpm and 430Nm between 2 250 and 2 500rpm.

This engine is paired to either a six-speed automatic transmission or a six-speed manual transmission with shift by wire technology.

GL models are fitted with 2.4-litre DI-DC engine that offers 81kW at 4000rpm and 200Nm between 1000 and 3750rpm and which is paired to a five-speed manual transmission.

New chassis and suspension

The Next-Gen Mitsubishi Triton rides on an all-new chassis frame that is the backbone to its improved overall performance. High tensile materials absorb road noise and vibrations for a comfortable and safe driving experience that minimises stress and fatigue. The new chassis is also key to improved stability, handling and enhanced durability.

High rider 2WD and 4WD models also feature completely redesigned front and rear suspension systems. The high mount double wishbone front suspension has been updated with a 20mm longer suspension rebound stroke compared to its predecessor as well as a larger stabiliser bar, ensuring better control on rough road surfaces.

The rear leaf spring setup has been retained but has been redesigned to reduce weight and ensure better ride quality. Improvements include updated rubber components and beefier shock absorbers. Thanks to the increased strength of each leaf spring a weight reduction was achieved without sacrificing suspension capability.

Legendary 4×4 status amplified

The Mitsubishi Triton has always been renowned for its off-road ability and key to this is the brands proprietary Super Select 4WD system that was forged from successes at the legendary Dakar Rally.

Super Select 4WD-II is Mitsubishi Motors’ unique, cutting-edge 4WD technology that provides outstanding all-terrain performance both on-road and off-road. Drivers can choose from four different modes, selected via a dial selector to match the various road conditions. A unique feature is that 4H can be selected while driving at speeds of up to 100km/h.

2H is perfect for situations that require smooth handling and lower fuel consumption. 4H offers a confident drive both on and off road but the biggest benefit is on slippery surfaces such as gravel as the centre differential distributes driving force at a ratio of 40% to the front and 60% to the rear.

In 4HLc the Triton is in four-wheel drive and the centre diff is locked ensuring traction in rough conditions such as snow, sand and dirt.

4LLc or low range, four-wheel drive, with the centre diff locked ensures capability in unstable road conditions such as mud or uneven surfaces.

The Next-Gen Mitsubishi Triton is now fitted with seven drive modes with all-wheel control technologies, compared to the four modes that were previously offered. Each drive mode has been finely tuned through extensive testing to achieve outstanding driving performance for each type of road surface. Modes include Normal and Eco as well as Gravel and Snow when in 4H and Mud and Sand when in 4HLc and Rock in 4LLc.

Ready to work

Across the model range the Next-Gen Mitsubishi Triton strikes a great balance between lifestyle and commercial use, key to this is a larger load bin and a 3.5-ton towing capacity.

The cargo bed height has been lowered by 45mm to 820mm compared to the previous model and the upper surface area of the bumper corner has been enlarged and reinforced with a frame to be used as a foot hold for improved practicality.

Well-equipped model range

The Next-Gen Mitsubishi Triton is being launched with the widest range of models ever, with 11 derivatives which include 4×2 and 4×4 options as well as commercial focused variants and premium lifestyle editions, ensuring that there is a Triton for every need.

Kicking off the local double cab range is the Triton GL 4WD manual that rides on 16-inch alloy steel wheels, featuring a rear tailgate lock and black side steps. Interior comfort and convenience features include keyless entry, an eight-inch SDA, two-speakers, manual air-conditioning, a rear centre armrest, USB and accessory socket and a fabric seat material. Safety features include ABS and EBD, Isofix, a high-mounted stop lamp, immobiliser, central locking and a speed-sensing auto door lock.

The Mitsubishi Triton GLS 2WD auto adds to this specification with the addition of 18-inch alloy wheels, LED headlamps, a rear spoiler, front and rear LED fog lights and heated power folding mirrors. Interior specification is enhanced with the addition of cruise control, a keyless operating system, Bluetooth with hands-free voice control, a smartphone wireless charger, multiple USB charging outlets, six-speakers, electric windows, an electrically adjustable driver seat, automatic air conditioning, rear air circulator and leather seats. “The Outlander has impressed our local media too. Following numerous international accolades the Outlander was recently announced as a semi-finalist in the 2024 Car of the Year competition, hosted by the South African Guild of Mobility Journalists (SAGMJ) in the hotly contested Family category,” says Jeffrey Allison, General Manager: Marketing at Mitsubishi Motors South Africa (MMSA).

The Outlander is the most thoughtfully engineered vehicle that Mitsubishi has ever developed and is based on an all-new platform that has allowed for the inclusion of a variety of new technologies, including the latest generation four-wheel drive systems, the ability to accept a hybrid drivetrain as well as quality improvements throughout.

The design, inspired by the Japanese product concept of I-Fu-Do-Do, is characterised by substantial horizontal proportions, which along with jet tail fin pillars, result in a bold, fixating presence.

Mitsubishi’s Dynamic Shield front design creates a substantial presence that is accentuated by LED front foglamps, LED sequential turn signals, and daytime running lights as well as a front skid plate, rear spoiler, and LED high-mounted brake light.

Under the bonnet

All derivatives are powered by the same 2.5-litre Duel VVT DOHC engine that utilises Direct Injection to produce an exceptional 135kW at 6 000rpm and 245Nm at 3 600rpm. This engine is paired with a simulated eight-speed CVT transmission that ensures effortless acceleration, smooth gear changes, and a refined driving experience. The power delivery experience can also be tailored via a variety of drive modes including Eco, Normal, Tarmac, Gravel, Snow, and Mud.

The transmission has been carefully programmed to keep the engine in the optimum range, ensuring excellent fuel efficiency and emissions, with a respectable combined cycle fuel consumption figure of 8,1 litres per 100km.

Modern interior and cutting-edge safety technology

The cabin is truly modern with high levels of comfort and luxury ensured by soft-touch surfaces and premium materials. This includes quilted leather door inserts, a black headliner, and pillars. The leather-wrapped four-spoke steering wheel is tilt and telescopic adjustable and is home to cruise control buttons and paddle shifters.

A central feature of the interior is a 12,3-inch Digital Driver Display, this is complimented by either an eight-inch Smartphone link display or a nine-inch Smartphone-Link display with navigation, depending on the model chosen. All derivatives feature Apple CarPlay and Android Auto smartphone mirroring capability.

Built around Mitsubishi Motor’s RISE (Reinforced Impact Safety Evolution) body structure, the Outlander features ultra-high tensile strength steel around the passenger compartment, which is further bolstered by an impact-absorbing front body structure and high-durability, low-deformation passenger compartment structure. All derivatives are fitted with seven airbags, ABS, Electronic Brakeforce Distribution, Emergency Stop signal system, Hill Start Assist, and Hill Descent Control as well as Active Stability and Traction Control.

Five models to choose from

The GLS Plus features the same comprehensive specification offering with the addition of a Multi Around Monitor.

Aspire derivatives offer additional interior, comfort, and convenience features including a powered panoramic sunroof, door mirrors with position memory, leather seats with seat memory, eight-way power adjustable and power lumbar support seats, a bigger nine-inch SDA with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto functionality as well as built-in navigation.

Sporting icon Bongi Mbonambi hooks up with the legendary Mitsubishi Pajero Sport

  • Mitsubishi Motors SA are teaming up with Bongi Mbonambi.
  • The partnership will see the double Rugby World Cup winner drive a Mitsubishi Pajero Sport.
  • Like Mbonambi the Mitsubishi Pajero Sport is a true sporting legend in its own right.

BALLITO – Mitsubishi Motors South Africa has handed over a brand new Pajero Sport to Rugby World Cup winning Springbok Bongi Mbonambi. The handover took place following the culmination of the Springboks Trophy tour at Mitsubishi Motors Ballito.

Bongi Mbonambi is known for his strength and talent in the position of hooker. A formidable rugby player that made an impact thanks to his strong defensive abilities and overall imposing physicality was crucial in securing the World Cup win for the Springboks both in 2019 and in the latest 2023 Rugby World Cup.

Similarly, the Mitsubishi Pajero nameplate is synonymous with strength and reliability and is one of the models that truly helped establish the brand. Like Mbonambi it is a true legend, owning the title of the most successful vehicle in the history of the Dakar Rally, with a total of 12 wins, including seven consecutive victories.

“Like the rest of South Africa, Mitsubishi Motors South Africa are over the moon with what the Springboks achieved and are proud to partner with double Rugby World Cup winner Mbonambi by sponsoring him with a brand-new Mitsubishi Pajero Sport,” says Jeffrey Allison, General Manager: Marketing at Mitsubishi Motors South Africa (MMSA).

“We feel that the iconic Mitsubishi Pajero Sport, that is renowned for its off-road prowess as well as DNA that was morphed with the Pajero and the motorsport success which that model enjoyed perfectly suits a robust and impactful player like Mbonambi and we trust that it will transport him and his family across many happy miles and to much more rugby success,” adds Allison.

Modern styling and unrivalled off-road ability

The Pajero Sport is visually appealing thanks to the Dynamic Shield front grille that ensures a stylish modern look. This is paired with LEDheadlamps, daytime running lights, fog lamps and cornering lamps. From the side, 18-inch alloy wheel designs and repositioned side steps perfectly enhance the design. The rear features an improved design incorporating LED rear combination lamps, rear park distance control and a rear spoiler as standard.

World Cup winner Ox Nché rewarded with Mitsubishi Triton Xtreme

  • Mitsubishi Motors SA have rewarded Rugby World Cup winner Ox’ Nché with a Triton Xtreme.
  • Like Nché the Mitsubishi Triton Xtreme strikes a great balance between work and play.
  • The Mitsubishi Triton Xtreme represents the ultimate iteration of a double-cab bakkie.

BALLITO – World Cup Winning Springbok prop Ox’ Nché has chosen to partner with Mitsubishi Motors South Africa. Nché was rewarded with a Mitsubishi Triton Xtreme at a handover ceremony that took place at Mitsubishi Motors Ballito only a few days after the Springboks clinched the William Webb Ellis Trophy for the second consecutive time.

Retshegofaditswe ‘Ox’ Nché got his nickname thanks to the power he brings to the scrum on breakdowns and first made his Springbok debut against Wales in 2018. This powerful loosehead prop has been a fixture of the Springbok squad since.

Have your cake and eat it

Most recently Nché gained notoriety for his witty Instagram captions, “Salads don’t win scrums” alongside images of him indulging in his favourite pieces of cake.

While the Mitsubishi Triton Xtreme is an extremely capable vehicle, like Nché, it is not afraid to have a little fun.

“Following an impressive Rugby World Cup Win Ox’ Nché deserves to have his cake and eat it and Mitsubishi Motors are proud to support thisimpressive Springboks player with a Triton Xtreme,” says Jeffrey Allison, General Manager: Marketing at Mitsubishi Motors South Africa (MMSA).

“The Mitsubishi Triton Xtreme is the ultimate iteration of Mitsubishi’s 4×4 double cab aimed at owners with an adventurous, extreme lifestyle making it perfect for an individual like Ox Nché,” adds Allison.

Xtreme derivative represents the ultimate iteration of Mitsubishi’s Triton

The Triton Xtreme offers an attractive, bold and adventurous look and a variety of additional equipment to take its already impressive off-roadabilities to new heights, resulting in the ultimate iteration of the Mitsubishi Triton double cab.

The Mitsubishi Triton Xtreme is sure to turn heads thanks to a host of visual improvements all round. Complimenting the Dynamic Shield front design concept is a distinctive new black bumper and grill combo as well as bonnet protector and headlight covers.

Xtreme branding, 4×4 decals, door handle cups, roof rack supports, window visors, taillight covers and a Kekosport style bar in black are all functional and add to the more aggressive look.

The cherry on the cake is the fender flare kit complete with visible bolt fittings, giving the Triton Xtreme a wider, more aggressive stance. These wider arches are filled with A-line alloy wheels in black shod with rugged All-Terrain tyres.

The load box of the Triton Xtreme features professionally applied rubberising and a tonneau cover that keeps contents hidden from prying eyes. A Bosal tow bar completes the enhancements to the rear of the vehicle.

The Mitsubishi Triton Xtreme boasts a luxury, comfortable cabin. Highlights include frame surroundings for the switch panel and air outlets, while a high-quality look is created by soft pad materials and stitching on the floor console, armrests and parking brake. The tilt and telescopic adjustable steering wheel is finished in leather and incorporates multi-function controls for the audio system and cruise control. Bluetooth and smartphone mirroring capabilities via Apple CarPlay and Android Auto will ensure that Nché remains connected and can listen to his favourite tunes seamlessly.

Tried and tested technology

Under the bonnet, the Triton Xtreme is fitted with Mitsubishi’s tried and tested 2.4L MIVEC turbodiesel engine that offers 133kW at 3 500rpm and 430Nm at 2 500rpm and has been mated to a smooth shifting six-speed automatic transmission featuring Intelligent Shift Control which is sure to transport Ox in comfort, whether it’s to training or the local cake shop.

All Mitsubishi Triton 4WD models are fitted with Mitsubishi’s latest Super-Select II 4WD system, which delivers optimum traction and handling across a variety of surface conditions. On automatic transmission derivatives like the Triton Xtreme this system incorporates an off-road mode which includes Gravel, Mud/Snow, Sand and Rock settings. When engaged, off-road mode tailors engine power, transmission and braking to regulate the amount of wheel slip, maximizing all-terrain performance and self-extraction performance.

The Triton Xtreme boasts Mitsubishi’s advanced RISE (Reinforced Impact Safety Evolution) Body Construction that utilises crumple zones to route and absorb energy during high-impact collisions. Side impact protection bars, Isofix and a seven-airbag system are in place for increased safety. Electronic off-road assistance enhances the Super Select II 4WD system by means of Hill Descent Control for additional safety off the road. Active Stability and Traction Control are an important safety feature and works in conjunction with S-AWC to provide maximum safety and driver control.

“Mitsubishi Motors South Africa are really excited to have a formidable player like Ox Nché as part of the family and behind the wheel of a vehicle that we believe perfectly dovetails with his personality,” concludes Allison.

Peace of mind comes standard

Mitsubishi Motors SA rewarded for enormous rental and leasing performance leap

Mitsubishi Motors SA rewarded for enormous rental and leasing performance leap

  • Mitsubishi Motors SA was the most improved brand in this year’s SAVRALA MOTY survey.
  • The SAVRALA MOTY survey judges’ performance in the rental and leasing industry.
  • Mitsubishi Motors SA to use feedback from this survey to further refine their offering to this segment of the market.

JOHANNESBURG – Mitsubishi Motors South Africa have in recent times made the expansion of their fleet focused product offering a priority. Along with the launch of the Diamond fleet club which offers members with unmatched aftersales support and service, Mitsubishi expanded the product range to include single cab models. This entry level Triton single cab model provides fleet owners with quality, reliability, durability and fuel efficiency resulting in a cost-effective solution in the face of rising fuel prices and repo rates. This was followed by fleet focused double-cab derivatives such as the Triton GL and GLX double cab that offer many of the advantages of Mitsubishi’s Triton double cab at a price point that makes it an ideal fleet purchase. In addition, the Mitsubishi Xpander panel van is a unique solution that combines MPV like qualities with secure load carrying ability.

These efforts have been noticed by the industry, who have voted with their wallets and now by the members of SAVRALA too.

At the 28th edition of the South African Vehicle Rental and Leasing Association (SAVRALA) Manufacturer of the Year Awards (MOTY), Mitsubishi Motors SA walked away with an award for the Automotive Member that has improved the most on their previous year’s performance.

The SAVRALA MOTY awards are purely performance based and are determined through two surveys conducted by Lightstone with 37 car rental and leasing companies in South Africa, covering rental and leasing performance. These surveys gauge fleet customers interactions with the manufacturers that they frequently deal with and whose vehicles are part of their fleets. Most importantly, participating rental and leasing companies are required to involve all the relevant people in their operations who are knowledgeable about each of the criterion to complete the various sections of the surveys, resulting in a very accurate set of results.

“In more recent years Mitsubishi Motors SA set a number of goals with the aim of taking the brand to new heights. These goals included a clearstrategy on becoming the mobility partner of choice to businesses of all sizes. This saw us refine our commercial vehicle offering and the aftersales value proposition for fleet clients. To be rewarded by SAVRALA as the most improved manufacturer shows that Mitsubishi Motors SA are making great strides in these areas,” says Nic Campbell, General Manager: Sales at Mitsubishi Motors South Africa (MMSA).

In the rental category of the competition, manufacturers are judged on criteria including communication, support, maintenance, value, theftprevention and B-BBEE and Mitsubishi improved considerably in all these categories resulting in an overall improvement, across all categories of 12.0%.

Some of Mitsubishi’s biggest improvements recorded were in categories such as the availability of parts and the waiting time for a service which is testament to Mitsubishi’s ongoing collective effort by aftersales staff and the dealer network who continue to embody the spirit of continuous improvement.

In the leasing category Mitsubishi again performed admirably with vast improvements in many of the sub sectors of the scoring criteria whichinclude communication, technical support, financial categories, dealer performance and B-BBEE.

“SAVRALA shares detailed results of the annual survey with participating manufacturers and these scores across the variety of judging criteria have been a great tool in assisting Mitsubishi to improve our operations related to the rental and leasing customer journey,” says Campbell.

“Mitsubishi are always innovating with the goal of giving all our customers, whether they are walking into a dealership and new to the brand or have a long-standing relationship with us, as many of our fleet and leasing customers do, the best possible experience when interacting with our brand throughout the ownership journey,” adds Campbell.

Mitsubishi continue to offer an extremely competitive product line up across a variety of criteria including reliability, safety, innovation and total cost of ownership all of which remain priorities that appeal to a wide variety of customers including fleet and leasing clients.

“At Mitsubishi we always believe that there is room for growth, and we hope to continue to improve across all facets of our business by offering the latest in terms of product along with the dealer network, sales staff and after sales back up that all our customers deserve,” concludes Campbell.

Mitsubishi to offer unrivalled value for money for lifestyle buyers with Limited Edition Triton GLX

Mitsubishi to offer unrivalled value for money for lifestyle buyers with Limited Edition Triton GLX

    • Mitsubishi are reinforcing the value for money proposition of their Triton GL double cab with the addition of a limited edition GLX derivative.
    • The limited edition Mitsubishi Triton GLX offers everything bakkie owners will ever need from a work or leisure vehicle.
    • A tried and tested powerplant offers a great balance between performance and fuel consumption.

JOHANNESBURG – Throughout the lifespan of the current Triton, Mitsubishi Motors South Africa has continued to offer models that cater for the exacting needs of South African customers. This has resulted in a variety of locally developed special edition models including the Triton Xtreme in 2020 and the launch of the Triton GL single and double cab derivatives and the Triton Heritage Edition in 2022. The Triton Xtreme was shown earlier this year at Nampo and just recently the café racer inspired Triton Athlete hit the road in South Africa.

When launched last year Mitsubishi’s Triton GL double cab was aimed at fleet customers and owners of small and medium enterprises (SMEs), but it very quickly found favour with lifestyle customers too, thanks to its accessibility, versatility and bold contemporary styling.

“The launch of the Triton GL has been beneficial in allowing MMSA to offer our customers greater versatility in the commercial vehicle market and attract more of those customers to the Mitsubishi brand,” says Jeffrey Allison, General Manager: Marketing at Mitsubishi Motors South Africa (MMSA).

For these customers the level of specification included along with modern styling and legendary Mitsubishi reliability at a more affordable price point continues to represent a sweet spot in terms of value for money.

“However, it quickly became clear that the value for money proposition that the Triton GL double cab represents appealed to leisure customers as much as it did to those looking for a stylish workhorse. The fitment of a number of choice accessories to the limited edition GLX should cement its position as a vehicle that can fulfil both these roles seamlessly,” says Allison.

Now, Mitsubishi Motors South Africa are launching a GLX double cab that builds on those strengths by refining the product offering with a variety of additional standard specification.

The addition of the choice accessories ensures that the limited edition Triton GLX is ready for anything that a working or lifestyle environment can throw at it.

A great balance of performance and fuel economy

Under the bonnet of the Triton Double Cab GLX is a tried and tested DOHC intercooled turbodiesel engine that boasts 100kW and 324Nm of torque.

The Triton GLX Double Cab utilises a 4×2 drivetrain, limited-slip differential and six-speed manual transmission that is capable of handling a wide variety of work and leisure tasks and doesn’t shy away from light off-roading or gravel road driving.

This engine and drivetrain combination also offers an excellent balance of performance and fuel economy, utilising just 8,0 litres/100km on the combined cycle, which is a real boon giving the record high fuel prices.

As with all Triton models the limited edition GLX rides on a rigid ladder frame chassis, that facilitates excellent handling and stability across a wide variety of road surfaces. Double wishbones with coil springs upfront and leaf spring rear suspension ensures a good combination of comfort and load carrying ability of up to 1-ton. The towing of leisure items or work trailers is now possible thanks to a neatly integrated Triton double tube tow bar.

Ready for work or play

The spacious load bed measures 1 520mm in length, 1 470mmm in width and is 475mm deep. The single rear tailgate handle enables one handed operation and has been upgraded with the Triton Tailgate lock on this model. Load bin contents is now kept out of sight thanks to a Keko Tonneau cover. Adding a touch of style is a black Keko Sport bar.

The list of creature comforts is comprehensive for this price point and includes keyless entry, central locking, an immobiliser, electric windows, air-conditioning and a touchscreen radio/CD player that has been upgraded with a Sony audio system in this limited edition model.

On the Triton GLX, Mitsubishi’s Dynamic Shield front design is complimented by a Black Triton Low Nudge bar.

Safety comes standard

Despite its value for money price point the limited edition Triton GLX is fitted with an extensive list of standard safety equipment including ABS brakes with EBD as well as Isofix child seat anchors. Occupant safety is ensured by a high-impact safety structure and airbags for the driver and front passenger.

Warranty and service

Mitsubishi’s entire commercial vehicle line up including the Triton GLX double cab is covered by a three-year/100 000km manufacturer’s warranty as standard. A five-year/90 000km service plan and five-year/unlimited roadside assistance ensures peace of mind and cost-effective motoring. Service intervals are set for every 10 000km.

“The limited edition Triton GLX is a real all-rounder that can fulfil roles as a workhorse and a lifestyle vehicle thanks to a high level of standard specification that allows those looking for a premium double cab, but shopping on a budget to drive a vehicle that can handle their usage requirements while still offering them everything they will need from a double cab,” concludes Allison.

For only an additional R10 000 the limited edition Triton GLX is fitted with the following additional equipment:

  • Black Triton low nudge bar
  • Black Keko Sport bar
  • Keko Tonneau cover
  • Triton GL double tube tow bar
  • Triton tailgate lock
  • Sony Carplay and Android auto system
