CAPE TOWN – Mitsubishi Motors South Africa (MMSA), in partnership with World Rugby referee Jaco Peyper, recently supported the Pebbles Project at L’Avenir Wine Estate in Stellenbosch.
SANZAAR (South Africa, New Zealand, Australia and Argentina Rugby) referees embarked on their pre-season conference week which culminated in an event that saw the team of referees selected for the upcoming Super Rugby season spend a valuable afternoon at the estate with children from the Pebbles Project.
Mitsubishi Motors SA supplied a fleet of Pajero Sport vehicles to transport the panel of referees around Cape Town.
“It was a fantastic opportunity for us as Mitsubishi Motors SA to be involved in not only the transport of our local and international guests, but also be invited to attend the afternoon and see exactly what the Pebbles Project is about,” said Nic Campbell, General Manager of MMSA . “It was a great afternoon.”
The main emphasis of the Pebbles Project is education.
“The Pebbles Project enriches the lives of children and families in the Winelands farming communities in the Western Cape. They focus on the entire life of the child and the challenging circumstances in which they live, to make a significant and lasting difference,” said Rebekka Swiegers, Human Resources Manager at L’Avenir.
Since inception in 2004, the Pebbles Project has impacted the lives of thousands of children and their families, by providing support and intervention in five key areas: Education, Health, Nutrition, Community and Protection (see www.pebblesproject.co.za).
Both the SANZAAR referee panel and children from the Pebbles Afterschool Care Centre had a great time playing touch rugby and the excitement and laughter could be heard all around.
“We thank the SANZAAR panel for their time and effort in helping us to achieve our goal, which is to teach these youngsters the basic rugby skills of catching and passing the ball,” said Campbell.
“We also thank L’Avenir for their incredible hospitality and the effort they put into the Pebbles Project; it is truly inspiring!”
