The all-new Triton was designed to match the ride quality of an SUV without compromising the workhorse qualities that have made double cab bakkies so popular in South Africa. The Triton’s innovative design results in a class-leading turning radius of only 5.9 metres and makes it a pleasure to drive in congested urban areas and harsh off-road conditions. The fully revised suspension enables car-like ride comfort and superb driving stability which also reduces body roll, provides quicker handling response and ensures a safer, quieter and more comfortable ride. Numerous noise insulators as well as noise absorbing and damping materials are applied in many parts of the vehicle to further reduce NVH levels, resulting in a smooth and quiet car-like driving experience.

The latest version of Mitsubishi’s unique Super Select II four-wheel drive system is fitted to the all-new Triton 4×4 derivatives. The highly capable Super Select II 4WD system, which also improves cornering performance and manoeuvrability, provides the Triton with four drive modes giving the driver more control in challenging weather conditions or on difficult surfaces:

2H (2WD High range) gives quieter running and better fuel consumption during normal on-road driving;
4H (4WD High range), selectable at speeds up to 100 km/h, distributes torque in a 40:60 ratio between front and rear axles via a centre differential (CD) – the latter permits safer on-road driving in slippery conditions;
4HLc (4WD High range with CD locked) improves traction on sand, dirt and snow roads by distributing torque equally between the front and rear;
4LLc (4WD Low range with CD locked) provides greater torque for extreme off-road conditions.


The all-new Triton is powered by a super-responsive 2.4L DOHC MIVEC 16 valve common rail intercooled diesel engine which is rated amongst the most efficient diesel engines in the world. The newly developed diesel engine features exceptional fuel consumption due to a class-leading low compression ratio of 15.5:1. An aluminium cylinder block and lightweight materials reduce the engine’s weight by 30kg, resulting in improved responsiveness, handling and braking reaction. This new light-weight engine produces 133kW and a whopping 430Nm of torque and is matched to a choice of two newly developed transmissions, resulting in responsive acceleration performance at low revolutions.

The all-new 5-speed automatic and 6-speed manual transmissions contribute to a smooth and nimble driving experience similar to that of passenger cars. The new automatic gearbox provides smooth gear changes and enhanced fuel economy during motorway driving. The automatic transmission is electronically controlled and while the Sports Mode facility offers clutch-less manual gear-shifting for instant response. The 6-speed manual transmission has a short shift stroke providing a car-like driving experience.


The all-new Triton provides high levels of safety achieved through the liberal use of high-tensile steel and the introduction of various active safety technologies in the construction of the RISE (Reinforced Impact Safety Evolution) body structure. All models feature Side Impact Bars, Airbags and are fitted with a collapsible steering column, designed to collapse in the event of an impact. With active safety technology such as ASTC (Active Stability & Traction Control), ABS (Anti-lock Brake System) and EBD (Electronic Brake-force Distribution), the new Triton will keep you travelling safely, no matter the journey.


The all-new Triton combines the interior comforts of a passenger car with the power, durability and performance of a workhorse bakkie. The Triton provides the ultimate in cabin comfort with more space, a smooth, quiet ride and premium finishes. The J-line design of the Triton Double Cab results in class-leading interior length and overall comfort with a reclined seatback angle providing plenty of leg, shoulder and head room in the front and back to easily accommodate five adults. The wider interior angle of the side windows also allows additional shoulder space inside the cabin, providing a relaxing ride for both driver and passengers. The Triton offers cruise control, a keyless operating system, dual-zone auto air-conditioning, a reverse camera, an electrically adjustable driver’s seat, tilt and telescopic steering wheel adjustment and leather upholstery, to name but a few.


Based on global product feedback, the body structure of the all-new Triton has been reinforced to increase its already legendary reliability and durability, to levels designed to cope with the world’s toughest and harshest working conditions.
